IOM Skopje has been commended by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia, receiving an honourable mention for successful cooperation and continuous support in the management of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as letters of appreciation for the successful cooperation in the area of border management and migration management.
Since its establishment in the Republic of North Macedonia in 1999, IOM Skopje has successfully cooperated with the Ministry of Interior and other authorities on migration management, including combating trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants, assistance to vulnerable categories of migrants, policy and legislation development, capacity building and advisory support. With the COVID-19 outbreak, IOM Skopje through the EU funding provided support to the Border Police via a donation of personal protective equipment, including support in printing and distribution of operational documents on COVID-19.
Additionally, IOM provides regular support to transit reception sites for migrants through the provision of hygienic items, assistance to vulnerable categories, medical support and education and awareness-raising on COVID-19 prevention and protection, including personal protective equipment for the personnel working in the Centres.
